25,000 pay homage to Sri Pada shrine of Sri Lanka on the very first day of season

Dec 20, Colombo: Over 25,000 pilgrims paid homage at the Sri Pada holy mountain, the Sacred Foot Print Shrine, on the very first day of the season that began from the December full moon day, the state-run radio Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) quoting provincial correspondents reported.

All arrangements including bus and train services are being finalized by the authorities to facilitate pilgrims who visit Sri Pada, also known as Adam’s Peak.

Authorities expect more pilgrims to pay homage at Sri Pada this season. The Sri Lanka Army has renovated the road from Palabaddala to Udamaluwa and Tharunyata Hetak Organization has organized a Shramadana to keep the road clean and tidy. The public are banned from bringing polythene and plastic to the sacred area.

Sri Pada, recently proclaimed as a world heritage site by the UNESCO, is a sacred shrine visited by Buddhists, Christians, as well as Muslims of Sri Lanka.
