Airlines may soon fly to Vigan airport

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur – Cebu Pacific and other commercial airlines are expected to fly this Heritage City of the North soon with the completion of the Phase 1 project of the Mindoro airport in Vigan City.

This was disclosed by reelected Congressman Ronald V. Singson, 1st district, Ilocos Sur, and his father, newly-elected governor Luis “Chavit” Singson, during the recent interview at DWRS radio with local newsmen based here.

The young Singson said that they had already made an initial communication with Lance Gokongwei of Cebu Pacific and he (Gokongwei) had responded positively about the proposal to make flights to Vigan City. “The existing flight from Manila to Laoag may also make stop over in our airport to fetch passengers before going to Manila,” said the bachelor solon.

Governor-elect Singson also said that one of his priorities is to boost the tourism industry in the province, particularly Vigan City, site of the centuries-old structures and Spanish-made houses. The former deputy national security adviser said that he can tap his big time businessmen friends from nearby Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and Korea to pour in their investments here, the most nearest and strategic area from these countries.

Rep. Singson and 2nd district Congressman Eric D. Singson, had already initiated the First phase of the improvement of the Mindoro airport, making it more viable for small commercial flights. Funds for its run way expansion is now being programmed by the Singsons.

According to Rep. Singson, Phase II of the project will be the putting up of Tower, lighting among others, adding they want to convert the Mindoro airport into an international airport to accommodate giant aircrafts coming here.
