P100 M needed to modernize Vigan Airport – Cong. Singson

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur, Nov. 8 (PIA) — Congressman Ryan Luis Singson urged the Aquino Administration through Transportation and Communications Sec. Mar Roxas to help in the expansion and modernization of the Vigan Airport in this Heritage City, the no. 4 tourist destination in the country and included in the UNESCO’s World Heritage List, to boost the tourism industry and create more jobs.

This was stressed by Congressman Singson (Bileg Party- First District) during a weekly “Kapihan iti Amianan” Media Forum at Baluarte here recently. The one- hour forum hosted by PIA was shown on Iluko Heritage Channel ,, Eagle Vision Cable System and aired over DWRS- Commando Radio, RMN..

The Ilocano solon said that he will confer with Sec. Roxas so that the Department of Transportation and Communications will assist the provincial government in developing the airport to entice more tourists and investors to visit the province and to make travelling easier.

Singson stressed that the expansion of the runway and the modernization of its communication equipment and facilities will further boost the growth of the economy and the tourism industry. He also sought the assistance of Public Works and Highways Sec. Rogelio Singson.

“We need about P100 million to expand and modernize the airport in order to sell Vigan and the province, considered as a First Class Province and boost its eco-tourism potentials, “ the former Vigan Vice Mayor said.

As part of President Aquino’s advocacy to create more jobs, the youngest son of Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson said that many foreign and local investors are interested to invest in hotels and beach resorts to accommodate the influx of tourists.

Congressman Ryan said that he also refilled a bill authored by his brother- former Congressman Ronald Singson for the establishment of the Cabugao Free Port as an Economic Zone to create more jobs for his constituents.

Meanwhile, Gov. Singson, national chairman of the League of Provinces of the Philippines, reported that as part of his industrialization thrust, some Chinese and Taiwanese investors are interested in putting up business in agri- business and eco-tourism in the province. (ANL/BPP-PIA 1 Ilocos Sur)
