Temple celebrates 1,000th anniversary

Traditional Bharatanatyam dancers practice their steps before a performance in front of the Brahadeeswara temple in Tanjore, 350km from Chennai, late Saturday. To mark the 1,000th year of the temple, 1,000 Bharatanatyam dancers from India and abroad offered an artistic salute to its deity Lord Shiva. The temple was built by Raja Raja Chola of the Chola dynasty. The temple is a technical and engineering marvel made entirely of granite stones and is is now recognised as a world heritage site by the Unesco.
